"Nitty Gritty of Relationship in International Relations" !

Updated: Aug 16, 2020

Well, the illustrative cartoon in the page comes with an important question, isn’t it? This is a question which is asked to me by many so let me try to throw an insight into it . What say ??? Come ,this time; let’s travel to the world of International Scenario, understanding why does countries both Small and Big need one another !

Do you know ,it is a Mutual Dependency of the countries on one another just like in our home or friend circle,we depend on each other based on our priorities and needs . Am I right ??? We prefer to be friends with them who support us in each respect. Similarly, we choose the balance in our home between our MOM and DAD depending ,who is favouring us at that particular moment. Well , in my case atleast it holds true ! Well ,I leave this paragraph for you to introspect, while I make a humble attempt to draw your attention on the needs of the Countries.

So, let’s try to understand why Big Developed Countries depend on Smaller Nations.

•So, the first reason is the for Need

for Resources. With resources, I mean natural resources like Oil, Minerals etc. The developed countries import the resources at a cheap price and sell it at their countries for a higher margin and guess what ? With that capital, the prosperity of the country is reflected as well the living standard of the people are uplifted. And we eye,to grab an opportunity to go and work or stay there.

For Example - USA's Invasion of Iraq in 2003 in the pretext of Weapon OF MASS DESTRUCTION was a perfect example of the above point that inspite of finding no WMD by Hans Blix. USA went ahead and invaded Iraq and destroyed the country and controlled the Oil Feilds. A little fun fact about this war , USA lost only 3000 soldiers while 50,000 Iraqi Civilians lost their life. Astounding right !!!!

•Secondly ,Economic Support which are received from Smaller Nations by the Big Countries in lieu for their military. Because deployment of military oversea is an expensive affair which cost is borne by the smaller nations.

Do you know , a perfect example is the 1st Gulf War ( which took place between Iraq and Kuwait ),1990 where USA got doubled of the profit than it originally invested. Saudia Arabia who joined this war on behalf of USA paid around 36 Billion! Surprise, this was just one country paying we had other 32 countries paying to USA for the same ( actually 34 countries joined, I didnot mention here about USA and Saudia Arabia in the total count of 34).

Spying ooops yes ,another vital reason for bigger countries which facilitate the need of the smaller nations.

USA constant patrolling in South China Sea so that China donot exploit the abundant oil resources available. Yes, South China Sea is the hub for natural gas and oil and countries of the world are staking claims there.

Isn’t this point,a little similar to our habit of stalking our friends or enemies in social media . Aaahh ! Did you just agree with me. Never mind :)

Now, after this above discussion, you might want to question than why do smaller nations join them ?

Firstly, Nations gets the Supply of Weapons from the Alliance.

For example - Pakistan joined CEATO and SEATO ( alliance lead by USA) because of which Pakistan got F-16 Aircraft in 1983.

•Secondly, Pomise of Protection from their Regional Neighbours’ ,they got from the bigger nations.

Let’s try to remember, USA supported Pakistan in Indo- Pakistan War (Creation of Bangladesh) of 1971 where USA send Submarines against India in Bay of Bengal . Do you know, India was helped by USSR by sending counter Submarines in Bay of Bengal.

•Last but not least , it is Financial Help that the bigger nations offer to smaller nations . Take the example of USSR, who extended financial help to Cuba and in return established military base against USA in 1962. A little informstion to tickle your brain, USSR deployed 24 missiles with 2200 miles capacity in Cuba against USA. Imagine , one missile alone has the capacity to blow half of USA ;) and we talking about 24missiles, I am sure ! Kennedy must have lost some sleep and got some goosebumps over this deployment of missiles ;)

Can you relate to this example, the person who gives you pocket money dominates our behaviour.

Keep Thinking! And don't forget to Let me know your thoughts in the Comment Section below :)

Well, with this write up , I hope you can understand why both the parties need one another . There are no free cakes in the world so basically it is a mutually process between them . As simple as that, it is a give and take relationship.

Think about your relationship with your friends or your family . It is always vice versa. Deliver a good result get the best mobile or best bike ... isn’t it ???? Keep wondering, till I am back with a new blog.

Love

Sukriti.
