Fun fact about the Constitution

Today, in this warm afternoon, I am back again with a new blog on our very own Constitution which is referred to as the longest constitution in the world. Isn’t that an amazing fact??? Longest Constitution but why? Have we thought about it? The answer to the question is very simple Indian Constitution consists of 444 Articles in 22 Parts,12 Schedule and 104 Amendments. Now that we know this simple fact, like me give you an insight from where has the term Constitution evolved and who used it for the first time. So, come join in to understand that the term Constitution was first used in Latin Language and was used for the first time by a Roman king. Ooops! But why did the Roman king used it, he used the term to denote “the highest authority in the land!” Now since a Roman king used this concept, how can we not arrive at a precise definition for the same. So, let me try to give you a simple definition for a complicated concept of constitution.

“Constitution of a country can be referred to as a Document which refers to fundamental principles or established norms according to which a state is governed.” It consists of all the Rules and Regulations for the citizens to follow and its interpretation is considered as final.

Isn’t it same like our home, where our parent’s decision is considered final and we have to abide by it or bear the consequences :)?

Now, that we arrived at a simple definition as well as a simple example don’t you think, we should go an explore a little deep about the various forms of Constitution around the World including our own Indian. Come join me to understand that all Constitutions are not written some are unwritten.

The UK has an Unwritten Constitution while My Desh India has a Written Constitution. If I am able to trace your mind, you might have a question popping up how does the UK functions without a written set of Rules? Did you want to ask me that? Well, killing your suspense, let me tell you. The UK runs on the basis of Magna Carta and the Supreme Court of UK recognizes the Principles of Rule of Law, Parliamentary Supremacy etc. Isn’t it commendable to have a country without constitution but it runs more swiftly and efficiently than most countries with a Written Constitution? The cartoon illustrates countries having Written and Unwritten Constitution.

Similarly, there are Constitution which is Democratic and Un-democratic.

Now, that we have seen different forms and types of Constitution. We can easily understand that, whether Written or Unwritten, Constitution does play an important role in every country.

Let me give you ironic factual information about the Constitution of North Korea, which goes to read as “People’s Democratic Republic of North Korea.” and further ARTICLE 12 gives the Citizens of North Korea Freedom of Speech and Expression. Like really? Till you absorb this fact, I shall be back with new writing.

I hope, I could keep you glued to my Writing. If yes, Stay tuned for more information.

Till than

Bye and Stay Safe.

Love

Sukriti.
